Inspired by a photo album discovered in an abandoned barn north of Montreal, The Unknown Photographer is a visceral, moving work that's both fascinating and unsettling, prompting reflection on the power of imagery and the ravages of war. This documentary/fiction hybrid takes viewers into the fragmented memories of a First World War photographer, giving new life to more than 260 long-lost images, as participants stroll through a vivid 3D dreamscape featuring otherworldly structures and allegorical characters. The Unknown Photographer is one of the first virtual reality (VR) works in the world to offer an immersive, 20-minute narrative and visual experience. Created by Sundance Film Festival in 2007, New Frontier brings together fiction, non-fiction and hybrid projects to showcase transmedia storytelling, multi-media installations, performances and films. Unknown cameraman series#
The series also contains reproductions of the club’s original photographs by the Star newspaper for an article documenting the club’s history printed sometime in 1926, which include two mounted rotogravures. Cyanotype photographs are noted in the folder description along with available corresponding negatives from the Washington, D.C. Max Hansmann was the primary photographer for the club and applied the popular cyanotype development method to many of the photographs, which gives them a blue tint. The “Procession of the Sacred Cat” on Februfeatures some very interesting photographs of club members in costume. “Bert” Owen’s Birthday Run on were photographed heavily. The 5th Annual League of American Wheelmen Races on and Herbert S. The reverse of the photographs notes members, dates, locations, and specific activities. “Bert” Owen, and Max Hansmann are prominently featured. The series is arranged chronologically by date and event featuring both group and individual shots. The series consists of photographs of the Capital Bicycle Club and it’s members from 1882-1890.
